³ For our appeal does not come from error or impure motives, or by way of deceit. ⁴ Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please people but God, who examines our hearts. ⁵ Indeed, as you know, we never at any time used flattering speech, nor did we act with greed as a motive. God is our witness.
